Beer Subscriptions in Switzerland: The English-Speaker’s Guide (2026)

If you’ve moved to Switzerland and love beer, you’ve probably discovered two things: Swiss craft beer is far better than its reputation abroad, and most of the scene happens in German or French. Here’s an honest, current guide to Swiss beer subscriptions for English speakers — written by a brewery that runs one, with the competition named and credited.

The Swiss beer subscription landscape in 2026

Switzerland has more breweries per capita than almost anywhere — over 1,100 registered breweries for nine million people. The main subscription boxes: Bierliebe (the market leader, mixed selection, site available in English), Brewmee (German only), Bierarena (German only), SmartBeer (French/German, Romandie-focused), Beerme (multilingual, mixed 12-packs) — and us, Swiss Beer Abo, run since 2010 by Bier Factory Rapperswil, a craft brewery on Lake Zurich that has been brewing since 2000.

What makes ours different (the honest version)

Most boxes are curated assortments: twelve different beers from different sources, optimized for variety. Ours is built on a different idea: one small brewery per box — six of their beers, their story printed and included, a different brewery every time. It’s a tour, not a sampler. Many of the breweries we feature never reach shops at all.

The second difference: we’re gift-first. Nearly all our boxes are given, not self-ordered, and the machinery shows it — a personalized gift certificate (see a sample) with the recipient’s name and delivery months, an announcement email on exactly the day you choose, and everything the recipient sees follows their language, English or German. If you’re gifting Swiss in-laws as an expat (or your family abroad is gifting you), that detail does a lot of work.

Third: prepaid means prepaid. You choose 3, 4, 6 or 12 boxes (CHF 129–499, free shipping in Switzerland). It ends by itself after the last box. No saved card, no auto-renewal, nothing to remember to cancel — since 2010.

What you’ll actually discover

The Swiss craft scene is small-batch and local by design. Expect alpine lagers done properly, hop-forward IPAs from young teams in old industrial buildings, monastery-style dark beers, and the occasional nettle beer or barrel experiment. Each box is one brewery’s world: what they brew, who they are, why they started.

Questions expats ask us

Is there really no auto-billing? Really. Prepaid, fixed number of boxes, ends by itself.
Can I pause if I travel? Yes — one email before the 20th of the prior month and we shift your boxes.
Can I order from abroad for someone in Switzerland? Yes — pay online from anywhere; boxes ship to their Swiss address.
Who picks the beers? A brewer. We call the brewery, we taste, we ask what they’re proud of.
